My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was very saddened by the events of Frederick Douglass' life. Of course, I've known for some time how slaves were treated, but it was just intensely tough to read it from a first-person point of view. I believe it is important to study people like Frederick Douglass who rose from such a life to become a leader in the movement to emancipate slaves. This is truly a must read for all Americans. We must be careful to never fall back into such a dark and degrading practice.
It is important to note that some countries still practice types of slavery and servitude. We must do what we can to stand up against this type of brutality and inhumane practice.
