Sorry for the Hiatus

I apologize for the long hiatus. My Google account was hacked and it has taken a few weeks to get it back and "unlock" all of the various Google products that I had linked to that one account. I have learned my lesson! It is imperative when using Google accounts to link their products like Blogger, Calendar, and Gmail to more than ONE Google username. That would have saved me a lot of time and headache.

Even though this website has a domain name, freedomeducators.com, I use Blogger to make it easier for readers to post comments and follow the posts. I will continue to use Blogger, even with the recent security issues, but I will use a smarter approach to being able to keep posts coming even during a time of attack by hackers.

The good news is that no unwanted posts were generated during this time. So, at least Google did try to keep any more damage from happening.

My sincere apologies!

  1. Or use 2 step verify and make sure your password is at least 12 characters long and that it uses letters, numbers, and special characters.

  2. Actually, it was because of 2-step verification that it took me two weeks to get my Google account back. Because we moved and were trying to login from a different state and had just changed our phone numbers they assumed we were hackers. The 2-step verification also kept me from getting my account back until I had given them all kinds of information, including my credit card information.

My feelings about 2-step verification and Google are not positive at this time.

  3. Yeah, you need to be careful with it, it can be a blessing and a curse. Sorry to hear it was a course for you.

I use a pre-paid cell phone, that I never change the phone number for. Also, I have the back up numbers that they give you just for those cases where your phone doesn't work anymore.

Well, I hope whatever solution you use in the future works out better for you.

  4. Thanks, Jon. Let's hope it doesn't happen again. I did give Google some feedback on what did not work with 2-step verification. There are several ways they can improve the process for this type of problem. This particular process needs some work.
